WASHINGTON, DC, November 20, 2013/ ---MSNBC’s Martin Bashir lashed out at Sarah Palin when she used slavery as an analogy in talking about the implications of American debt.  He spewed disgusting filth and hate in an effort to degrade Sarah Palin only because her politics differ from his.

What I found interesting was that Mr. Bashir seemed to think that he had more right to use slavery as an analogy than did Palin.  He actually said, “It’s hardly surprising that she (Palin) should choose to mention slavery in a way that is abominable to anyone who knows anything about its barbaric history.”

Bashir then goes on to act as if he alone is the utmost authority on anyone and everyone who has ever been enslaved.  He spewed out two separate accounts of discipline inflicted on slaves in the 1700s by Jamaica slave owner Thomas Thistlewood.

He begins telling of how a slave named Darby was caught ‘eating kanes’.  He was flogged and pickled before Thistlewood forced another slave to defecate in Darby’s mouth.  The punishment became known as “Darby’s Dose,” the MSNBC host explained.

Bashir then went on to mention another similar act of sheer cruelty and brutality.  This time in relation to a man named Punch who was flogged, had salt pickle, lime juice and bird pepper rubbed into his wounds, before slave owner Thistlewood forced another slave to urinate in the Punch’s eyes and mouth.

Bashir finally got to his underlying message — that if anyone is qualified for such treatment, it’s Sarah Palin.  He stated: “When Mrs. Palin invokes slavery, she doesn’t just prove her rank ignorance. She confirms if anyone truly qualified for a “dose” of discipline from Thomas Thistlewood, she would be the outstanding candidate.”

I am a black woman.  To say that I take exception to Mr. Bashir’s appalling remarks is a gross understatement.  My ancestors suffered the extreme inhumanity of the middle passage and endured the horrors and cruelty of slavery.  From the time I was a young girl, I heard terrible stories passed down by family members over the years and I would not wish those atrocious and vile acts on my worst enemy.

Bashir also insisted on flinging the word unintelligent with regard to Palin.  He dubbed her America’s “resident dunce” and a “world class idiot,” well…let’s look at that.

Since Martin Bashir spewed his filth against Gov. Palin, he has been back-tracking, side-stepping and apologizing all over the place which proves that after all is said and done, maybe he is one “resident dunce” who should have used his vast intelligence to choose words more carefully--or just keep his mouth completely shut to avoid sounding like a “world class idiot.”

I hope MSNBC will see Mr. Bashir’s ‘rank ignorance’ as the dead weight that it is and consider cutting the cord.
